We have an artist on our hands!

This week Madison brought home her first art project from daycare. Of course, we had to put it on the fridge to show it off!

Daycare started off really well two weeks ago. When it came time for Jeff to leave, she'd kiss him goodbye and go about her day. Madison had new friends and she loved being with them. This week on the other hand, at drop off, she wants nothing to do with anybody but her dad! She has figured out that we are now leaving and won't be back for a bit. It's a horrible feeling to have to leave her with her screaming her head off but we know that it is best for her and she's making new friends...which she REALLY needed. We've noticed though that when we are home she LOVES spending time with mom and dad. Stays very close and is very snuggly!

And the world just keeps getting smaller!

No, Jeff and I didn't have another baby. That's Madison! But it is a very appropriate picture for the story I am about to tell...

Madison went to the Dr yesterday for her 15 month appointment (everything was perfect and she is right on target with all her specs!). We had a new nurse wait on us...we haven't had her in previous visits. Things are moving along as normal in the visit...Get back to the room, strip poor little Madison down to nothing while LOTS of questions are being asked. Then the nurse notices Madison's birth date. The rest of the conversation went like this....

NURSE: Oh, Madison's birth date is the same as my son's.
SANFORD's: What a coincidence (or something like that).
N: What time was she born? Morning or night?
S: 8:50pm
N: My son was born at 9:10pm!
S: In which hospital did you deliver?
N: Wake
S: Us too!, Who was your Ob?
N: Kamm, McKenzie...
S: That's our Ob!
N: Did you have a c-section?
S: Well, as a matter of fact I did!
N: Your were the c-section that kept Dr. Harden from being able to come in to deliver my son!!!
S: Get out!!! No way!!! How cool is that!!!

Long story just a bit longer. The nurse's son was delivered just after Madison (not by Dr. Harden of course). What are the chances that you would EVER run into the mother of the child that was born minutes after your own miracle?! So cool!

Just thought you'd like to hear that funny story!

Another One Year Birthday!

Got up early this morning. We had lots to do today and not enough time to get it all done. Stopped by the hospital for dad to visit with Madison for an hour or so. He looked fantastic and was feeling very good. It really perked him up to see his granddaughter. Madison made his day since she was handing out many kisses! Now it was time to head to N. VA to visit cousin Mackenzie.

The trip from Charlottesville to Fredricksburg went smoothly. Then it all just came to a standstill! Heaing north always reminds me as to why we left. You have to have the patients of a saint to drive in NVA! We made it to te Springfield Sanford's a little late, but in plenty of time to share in the birthday events. Mackenzie's birthday was wonderful...good food, great company and fun, fun, fun! Madison loved seeing all the children and getting to spend time with her cousin.

After all the festivities died down, it was time to just take it easy. Madison took this opportunity to be the class clown...don't know where she gets that from :-).

The next morning it was time to say good bye and head back to Charlottesville for a visit with dad and then back to Raleigh. All said, Miss Lace did very well. It was a LONG weekend but well worth the trip. Glad we had the week to catch up on sleep!

Something called a Whipple

This past weekend the Raleigh Sanford's burned up the VA highways. Friday morning started out with caravaning with the Canton Sanford's to the Cracker Barrel in Roanoke Rapids. We let Madison stretch her legs for a bit after breakfast and the Canton Sanford's continued on to the Springfield Sanford's. Dad went into surgery about the time we got on the road. We were hoping for a short surgery, but as the day went on, we realized that dad was having the full Whipple surgery. The trip to Charlottesville was long and worrisome. Our family had never experienced anything like this before. Getting to the hospital was my #1 objective, but with a hungry 15 month old, all that changes. After a quick bite, I left Jeff and Madison back at the hotel and I made it to the hospital around 3pm or so. Dad was STILL in surgery and our next update was at 5pm. At that time, we found out that it would only be an hour or so more. The doctor came down to update us and to let us know that dad came through the surgery with flying colors! Just as the doctor had let us know from the beginning, the surgery lasted for 8 hours! When we saw dad later that night, he was in very good humor and was very happy it was all over.
